ABOUT SHLOMIT:

Shlomit Moria is a wood sculptor and a chainsaw carver from Warburton, Victoria.

The use of the chainsaw for my work, is like any other tool. Chainsaws are versatile and allow working with large pieces of wood. I do use however, many other power tools to reach the result I am after.

After many years in the 2 dimensional world of graphic art, I am now following my lifelong passion for the 3 dimensional medium of wood sculpture.

When I started my wood carving business in 2017 I was selling mostly through markets until the end of 2018 when I was discovered by landscape architects. Since then I have been busy with larger commissions for playgrounds, schools and private individuals. Among my clients are Parks Victoria and Stonnington Council.

“I love the way the wood dictates the piece, the little bit of unpredictability fascinates me and reminds me to let the magic do its thing without trying to control it; wood is a living thing and it is an honour sculpting with it.”

Shlomit is a regular partcipant in Yarra Valley Open Studios.
