Tensions between metals and natural materials inspire me

ABOUT GERD:

Gerd is a self-taught crafsman who has been designing, making and exhibiting jewellery since the seventies with his partner Heidi Wild. His favourite metal was originally titanium and the jewellery often included small fossils.

Lately his interest has evolved into creating small sculptures as a continuation of his creative process.

He continues to use metals such as titanium, brass, copper, aluminium, and steel. He also uses resins, acrylic and often includes natural materials such as stone, seed pods and fossils.

The relationship between the softness of aluminium and the hardness of titanium plus fossils creates tension.

Gerd’s small sculptures range from 30 cm to 1 metre tall, are beautifully crafted and have a playfulness about them.
