Design Process

Late last year, Scottie was a part of our Talk Shop program at YAVA. Here is a short video of a product he created for Taylor Made Wines.

Tailfeather products are meticulously designed and handcrafted by husband and wife team Scottie and Natalia in their studio on the Bellarine Peninsula in Victoria. Founded in 2010, deep in the Victorian Tallarook ranges drawing inspiration by the surrounding bush landscape, Tailfeather sought out the creation of a timeless Australian minimalist aesthetic combined with contemporary styling that holds practicality at its heart.

‘I’ve always been driven by learning before creating. Committing to my ideas and executing them.

‘My designs are mostly driven by by manufacturing techniques, so I tend to focus on pattern-making skills and sewing techniques. Then, when I get an idea for a product, it is underpinned by my most recent development in a technique…like a connection point or a corner method or way of folding leather to create strength or structure.’
