ABOUT BILL:
The terms ‘Film Noir’, ‘Pulp fiction’ and ‘Hard-boiled Detective’ may provoke many different responses from people, but to me I immediately think of the work of Raymond Chandler. In the 1930s he was the writer that defined ‘Hard-boiled’ detective fiction. For a majority of my life he has been my favourite author, so it is only natural for me to be inspired by his writing.
In a series of black and white drawings my recent work attempts to depict images that convey mystery, unease, danger and what Chandler called ‘the smell of fear’. They are images of dark, rainy nights, lonely roads and solitary vigils.
