ABOUT CLARE:
I'm not interested in perfection. I don't seek it out, nor express it in the work that I make. I try to take notice of intricacies in nature, discovering world's within worlds, of ecologies in their perfect balance. I look at the world with wonder and try to understand it. Creating my paintings and sculptures help fulfil my curiosity and express my love in the natural world.
I work each day in my purpose built, wonky, studio perched up the top of our back garden. It is full of things I collect, bones and feathers, plants and pressed seaweed. There are always a number of pets with me as I work. A quaker parrot chatting to me, our three-legged hound snoring and a visit from my poultry throughout the day. It is cluttered, and often quite messy, but creating my work in such chaos seems the only way I work! Radio National is always on. My potbelly stove warms me in winter and the double doors are flung open all summer. To me, it is a perfect studio.
Clare is a regular participant of Yarra Valley Open Studios.
