ABOUT JANINE:
Janine is a visual artist living in the Yarra Valley, regional Victoria.
She was drawing and painting from the age of two, sitting on her mother’s lap, at the kitchen table in suburban Melbourne, late 1960’s.
In the decades since, she has created, exhibited, and sold her work, in media ranging from pastel, oil and print making, to digital illustration and furniture painting.
She gained a solid grounding in painting technique under the instruction of Melbourne artist David Moore ... and in the meantime, completed a children’s picture book called ‘A Faerie’s Promise’.
Her latest work brings together a life-long passion for horses, the symbolism of her spiritual practices, the whimsical nature of her children’s art, and the bold painterly textures of aged and distressed objects.
Her art is informed by her travels across India, Nepal and Australia. She is inspired by artists, Claire Guiral (contemporary), Paul Gauguin, and Gustav Klimt among others, evident in her rich colour palette, luscious textures, patterns and translucent layers.
When she is not attending the bereaved at Heritage Funeral Home, she works in her studio in the Yarra Valley, accompanied by her husband Shane Trail, good music and fine wine.
