ABOUT KATHLEEN:
Kathleen loves making art - painting, drawing, taking photos or weaving inspired by the beauty of Nature.
Her love of the natural world has led her to study the forms, colours and textures of the plants and animals that surrounds us all. Working with pencils, watercolours, acrylics and more recently oils she tries to capture the delicate details, looking deeply into the heart of her subject, whether an ant or a plant, to pay homage to the wonders of creation.
Her love of drawing began in primary school, and she still loves to work in that medium. “I love working with black lead pencils, the contrast of black and white, the delicate lines, the edges that distinguish one thing from another. The inky blackness of the shadows speaks to me of mystery, the dark places in my mind and soul that do not wish to be seen or even known.”
More recently she has turned her hand to coiling, a weaving technique perfected by our First Nations peoples. The colours of her baskets and earrings are based on the palette of Australia’s deserts, seascapes and sunsets. “Another methodical practice that focuses my mind and intrigues me with the details and patterns that one can create”.
