SPIRIT OF THE VALLEY

Di King

Artist: Di King

Di King sees the beauty in her surrounds. Always looking to capture the spark in her subject, she is well known for her remarkable representations of people, and painted landscapes featuring grand trees, waterfalls, grazing sheep and cattle. She has exhibited around the world, won many awards and sat on numerous judging panels.

In this exhibition, Spirit of the Valley, Di seeks to convey the essence of all that makes her home of many years – the Yarra Valley – exceptional. While we see beloved places such as LaLa Falls, Steavenson Falls, and resplendent valley views, we also see people. Di has brought the cooks, the community and the culture to her work, in this celebration of the multifaceted Yarra Valley.

Having received many international accolades throughout her career, Di now finds the thrills are closer to home. She is simply chasing the light – the moment when her subject is illuminated, and the ordinary becomes extraordinary.

Saltbush Ensemble Concert

Join us in the gallery on Sunday 24th September at 2:30pm for a magical performance by Saltbush Ensemble.

Throughout history composers have described events, objects or people through music. In the Romantic period (c. 1830 – 1900) this was coined Program Music by Franz Liszt. Program Music is considered synonymous with the Romantic and almost a defining characteristic of the era; so much so that it was forgotten that it was prominent throughout the Baroque period as well. Three musicans will play for you amongst Di King’s paintings compositions from the Baroque period using instruments popular in the 18th century.

You can learn more about the concert and Saltbush ensemble here.
