ABOUT SUSANNE:
Susanne has recently returned to painting. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education, majoring in painting, and taught Art and allied subjects in Secondary Schools in Victoria for over twenty years. During that period Susanne successfully participated in several group exhibitions and two solos.
Moving into the area of computer-generated art in the 1990s, and for ten years prior to ‘retirement’, Susanne lectured in Computer Graphics at RMIT University, City Campus.
Since retirement she now paints experimentally, selling her work through online galleries and local exhibitions. After discovering Giclée printing technology she has her paintings scanned, enlarged, and printed on canvas to any required size. This technique produces perfect reproduction.
Susanne has participated in shows with the RMIT Gallery, Ringwood Art Society, the Mount Evelyn Community Centre, the Memo Gallery in Healesville, the Warburton Art Gallery, and the YAVA Gallery in Healesville.
Kimberley Series – Current work
During the three years before lockdown, Susanne spent time in the Kimberley region and found inspiration and direction in the colours and atmosphere of the area. She works from aerial and personal photographs, using a dotting technique.
Hard Edge Series
Combining the use of hard edge colour, transitional colour, and the breaking of the picture plane.
Representational Cat Series
Influenced at this time by the juxtaposition of unlikely objects as per Magritte. Using classical renaissance composition of objects on the canvas.
Gaia with Attitude Series
During this period Susanne was interested in the work of David Laity and Guy Warren, two very different Australian artists, incorporating their influence into her work, which was based on the natural world of plants, animals and birds.
