exploring relief printmaking

ABOUT GREG:

Greg is a fine art printmaker and freelance illustrator who works from his home studio in Healesville. He has been working as a printmaker for 20 years and has participated in various group and solo exhibitions.

His fine art practice explores the traditional methods of relief printmaking. Inspiration is varied; In Healesville, it may be from the abundance of natural fauna and flora surrounding the township. In the suburbs of Melbourne, it may be an industrial landscape or architectural elements that catch his eye; the relationship between man-made structures and the environment they sit within.

Greg has also worked as a freelance illustrator on various projects from product branding and advertising, to more recently, motion graphic elements in film. He has employed the use of both traditional forms of illustration from watercolour, pen and ink to digital technologies.

“I enjoy the process and problem-solving elements relief printmaking can present – the medium can allow for exploration of simple and bold designs to intricate and detailed images. The tactile process of carving the lino and inking the block provides a satisfying and engaging experience. With multiple carves and the addition of colours, each iteration brings a new experience, with the outcome holding an element of surprise.”

Greg is available for commission work, both in print form and digital.
