I love how timber feels to the touch and much of my work encourages people to do more than just look.
ABOUT IAN:
I have been fascinated with natural materials for all my adult life. Originally working with stone and clay, I discovered timber as a medium in my mid twenties and have never looked back.
Much of my work draws from the shapes of the natural world. In my practice I find inspiration from the contrasts between surface and structure, organic and inorganic and perception and reality.
I love how timber feels to the touch and much of my work encourages people to do more than just look.
One collection of small carved objects I called “Touchables” was inspired by my Mum, a painter and teacher who in later life slowly lost her sight to glaucoma.
Ian is a regular participant of Yarra Valley Open Studios.
