HORSE
During 2021 our series of curated exhibitions will continue to showcase the talent of our YVA members. The first of these was Now Change, which launched in 2020; we were excited to observe how the works resonated with our gallery visitors and community members throughout its duration.
Horses have long held a powerful, and often pivotal, presence in great works of art. Their relationship with humankind is grounded in an earthly bond, and is the basis for many expressions of gratitude and love in the form of artwork. At the same time, their symbolic position as a metaphor of trust, strength, friendship and freedom makes them excellent subjects and conveyors of potent meaning.
This exhibition is a playful and spirited one, celebrating the role this majestic animal has played across cultures and in our personal experience. To you, horses may be a symbol, a companion, entwined in sporting or leisure pursuits; whatever its meaning, we wanted to share our artists interpretation.
Artists include; Agnes Szetey, Amanda Lithgow, Cathie Berry, Denise Smith, Di King, Kate Taylor, Kerryl Shirley, Khoi Bui, Phoenix, Savaad Felich, Julie Ricketts,
Wilani Van Wyk-Smit and Mary Newham.
