A Journey of Creation

Respond exhibition showcases the work of 32 artists in 15 groups responding to, and inspired by each other's ideas. The artists have collaborated to explore ways of presenting these ideas in different media, producing a body of work that breaks new ground and presents artwork in multiple forms, each artist working to their own individual skill and artistic passion.

The multi themed works use textiles, sound, film, paint and more to provoke and challenge the viewer in a refreshing break from tradition. This exhibition furthers YAVA’s goal of stretching artists to explore, experiment and take risks and we welcome back Andrew Chew as Guest Curator.

Andrew Chew was YAVA Gallery & Arts Hub’s inaugural Gallery Director/Curator. He is well known in Melbourne as a founder of No Vacancy Gallery and multiple hospitality businesses in the Preston area.

AbouT Payten&Jones

Behn Payten and Troy Jones grew up together in Healesville; graduating from the local high school in 1997. You could say they were destined to be (wine makers) together. With Behn’s father’s experience managing Australia’s first organic vineyard, they have created wine with minimal intervention and sustainability in mind. Their wine is a little rough around the edges with lots of character.

Drinking these wines is like experiencing a band live, as opposed to listening to a recorded track.
